Privacy in Plain Language — Silver Streak Senior Solutions collects only the information reasonably needed to provide fraud-awareness education, respond to requests, accept and acknowledge donations, communicate with supporters, and operate safely. We do not sell or rent personal information.
1. Who We Are
Silver Streak Senior Solutions (“Silver Streak,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Texas nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our current mission is to help older adults, caregivers, families, and communities recognize, prevent, and respond to fraud, scams, and financial exploitation through free education, workshops, practical resources, and fraud-awareness workbooks. We are responsible for the personal information described in this Privacy Policy when we decide why and how that information will be used. Our contact information appears in Section 17.
2. Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we collect through silverstreakseniorsolutions.com, pages and forms that link to this Policy, our Donorbox campaign pages, membership and donation forms hosted on silverstreakhelp.com (operated by Silver Streak Senior Services LLC), workshop and event requests, virtual or in-person program registrations, email communications, surveys, and other nonprofit activities that refer to this Policy. This Policy does not govern the independent privacy practices of websites, social-media platforms, payment processors, or other third parties that we do not control. Their privacy notices also apply when you use their services.
3. Information We Collect
A. Information You Provide Directly
- Contact and identity information. Your name, email address, telephone number, mailing address, organization, title, and preferred method of contact.
- Workshop and program information. Information needed to request, schedule, register for, or participate in a workshop, including the hosting organization, location, estimated attendance, audience needs, accessibility requests, and communications about the event.
- Donation information. Your donation amount, date, frequency, campaign or designation, donor-recognition preference, billing contact information, transaction identifier, and information needed to send an acknowledgement or tax receipt. Donorbox and the payment processor you select handle payment credentials. Silver Streak does not receive or store your complete payment-card number or complete bank-account credentials.
- Communications and submissions. Messages sent through contact forms or email, survey responses, questions, feedback, and any information you voluntarily provide when asking for help or sharing a scam-prevention experience.
- Newsletter preferences. Your email address, subscription status, and communication preferences when you choose to receive fraud-prevention tips, workshop news, or nonprofit updates.
- Photos, recordings, and testimonials. We may collect a photograph, video or audio recording, testimonial, or personal story only as reasonably needed for the stated purpose. When the material will be used publicly, we will seek separate permission or use another lawful basis approved by counsel.
Please Do Not Send Sensitive Information Through General Forms. Do not submit Social Security numbers, driver's-license or passport numbers, passwords, security codes, full account numbers, complete payment-card details, medical records, tax returns, or copies of suspected fraudulent messages containing sensitive information unless we specifically request it through an approved secure method. If you share a scam experience for educational purposes, remove personal and account details first.
B. Information Collected Automatically
When you visit our website or interact with an online form, we and our service providers may automatically collect limited technical and usage information, such as your Internet Protocol address, approximate location derived from that address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, dates and times of access, link interactions, cookie identifiers, and security logs. We may use essential cookies and similar technologies to operate and secure the website. We may also use analytics or embedded-content technologies to understand website use and improve our services. The providers and exact cookies may change as our website tools change. Where required by law, we will request consent before using nonessential cookies.
C. Information From Other Sources
We may receive information from: Donorbox and payment processors confirming a donation; a senior center, community organization, caregiver, or family member coordinating a workshop or requesting resources; email, virtual-meeting, website-hosting, or event-service providers; and public sources when reasonably necessary to verify an organization or protect against fraud. If someone gives us information about another person, the person providing it should have authority or permission to do so.
4. How We Use Personal Information
We may use personal information for the following purposes: Responses — to respond to questions and requests for information or resources. Programs — to schedule, administer, deliver, and improve fraud-awareness workshops and educational programs. Resources — to provide workbooks, downloads, event information, and accessibility support. Donations — to process, record, acknowledge, and administer one-time or recurring donations. Recordkeeping — to send tax acknowledgements and maintain accounting, audit, and nonprofit records. Communications — to send newsletters or fundraising communications when permitted and honor communication choices. Improvement — to measure program reach, website performance, and community impact using appropriate safeguards. Security — to protect our website, donors, participants, staff, volunteers, and systems from misuse, fraud, and security threats. Legal compliance — to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce applicable agreements, and establish or defend legal claims. Authorized media — to use photos, recordings, testimonials, or stories for an authorized purpose consistent with the permission provided. We do not use personal information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.
5. Donations and Payment Processing
Our online donation forms are provided through Donorbox. Donorbox may process donor information on our behalf and may also use certain information for its own platform, account, security, and legal purposes as described in the Donorbox Privacy Policy. Donations may be processed through payment providers such as Stripe or PayPal, depending on the method selected by the donor. We typically receive donor contact details, donation amount, campaign, frequency, status, transaction identifier, and information needed for acknowledgements and recordkeeping. Payment processors use security controls such as tokenization and handle complete payment-card or bank credentials. We do not publish a donor's name or story without permission. If a donation form offers a public-anonymity option, that choice controls public recognition. It does not prevent us or our service providers from retaining records required to process the gift, prevent fraud, issue acknowledgements, or comply with law. For more information, review the Donorbox Privacy Policy at https://donorbox.org/privacy and the privacy notice of the payment method you select.
6. When We Disclose Personal Information
We may disclose personal information only as reasonably necessary for the following purposes: Service providers — providers that assist with website hosting, form processing, Donorbox donations, payment processing, email delivery, cloud storage, accounting, virtual meetings, analytics, cybersecurity, accessibility, and other operational services. Professional advisers and oversight — attorneys, accountants, auditors, insurers, banks, grant administrators, regulators, and tax authorities when reasonably necessary for their work or our legal obligations. Community partners — a senior center, host organization, speaker, volunteer, or program partner when needed to coordinate a workshop or resource request and consistent with the information you provided. Legal, safety, and security purposes — courts, law enforcement, regulators, or other parties when we reasonably believe disclosure is required or permitted by law, needed to respond to valid legal process, or necessary to protect rights, safety, property, or systems. Organizational changes — a successor nonprofit or other appropriate party in connection with a merger, restructuring, transfer of programs or assets, dissolution, or similar event, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal safeguards. At your direction or with permission — a person or organization you ask us to contact, or the public when you separately authorize a testimonial, photograph, recording, story, or donor recognition. We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not knowingly share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If these practices change, we will update this Policy and provide any notice or choice required by law.
9. Email, Telephone, and Text Communications
We may use contact information to respond to you; coordinate a workshop; administer a donation; send a requested resource; or provide another service-related message. We may also send newsletters, fundraising appeals, or fraud-awareness updates when permitted by law. You may unsubscribe from promotional email by using the unsubscribe link in the message or contacting us. Opting out of promotional email will not stop necessary transaction, donation, registration, safety, or legal notices. We will not send marketing text messages without the consent required by applicable law. Message and data rates may apply to text messages.
10. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to satisfy legal, accounting, tax, audit, grant, security, dispute-resolution, and recordkeeping requirements. Retention periods vary based on the type of record, sensitivity, legal requirements, and operational need. For example: donation and tax-accounting records may be retained for seven years or longer when required; newsletter information is generally retained until you unsubscribe or we discontinue the list; workshop and inquiry records are retained for the period reasonably needed to coordinate the program, evaluate impact, and address follow-up; and consent or release records may be retained for as long as the related material is used and afterward as needed to document the permission granted. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete, deidentify, or securely dispose of it.
11. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. These safeguards may include access controls; multifactor authentication where available; encrypted transmission; vendor management; backups; personnel training; and procedures for responding to suspected incidents. No website, email, storage system, or transmission method is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data incident occurs, we will investigate and provide notices required by applicable law.
12. Your Privacy Choices and Rights
You may ask us to update your contact information; stop promotional communications; withdraw an optional permission; or explain how we handle your information. Depending on where you live and whether a particular law applies to us or the information, you may also have the right to: request access to your personal information; request correction or deletion; request restriction of certain processing; receive a portable copy of certain information; obtain information about disclosures; object to certain processing; opt out of sale, targeted advertising, or qualifying profiling; withdraw consent; or appeal a decision concerning a privacy request. We do not sell personal information or use it for qualifying targeted advertising or significant-effect profiling. To submit a request, email support@silverstreakseniorsolutions.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” Describe the request and provide enough information for us to locate the relevant records. Do not email copies of government identification unless we specifically request a secure verification method. We may need to verify your identity or authority before completing a request. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authority and direct verification with the individual. We will respond within the period required by applicable law. Certain information may be retained or a request may be limited when an exception applies, including for tax records, legal obligations, security, fraud prevention, the rights of others, or legal claims. We will not unlawfully discriminate against anyone for exercising a privacy right.
13. Information for People Outside the United States
Silver Streak is based in the United States, and information we collect may be stored or processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from the laws where you live. When the European Economic Area General Data Protection Regulation, United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation, or a similar law applies, our legal bases may include: your consent; performance of a contract or steps you request; compliance with legal obligations; and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, improving, and supporting our nonprofit programs, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights. Where required, international transfers will use an approved legal mechanism or another lawful basis. You may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object, receive portable data, withdraw consent, and complain to a supervisory authority.
14. Children's Privacy
Our website and programs are designed for older adults, caregivers, adult family members, donors, volunteers, and community organizations. They are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through the website. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and delete it when appropriate.
15. Third-Party Sites and Social Media
Our website and communications may link to government agencies, reporting portals, educational resources, social-media platforms, and other third-party sites. We do not control their privacy or security practices. Information you post publicly on social media may be seen, copied, or used by others. Review the privacy settings and notices of each third-party service before providing personal information.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our programs, technology, service providers, or legal obligations change. We will post the revised Policy and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide additional notice or request consent when required by law.
